We didn’t do much today. I hung out at the pool (see photos), and Carl read a little, and then we both went to the spa, him for a haircut (which he said was the worst one of his life), and me for a much needed pedicure, which was very adequate.

My spa in Woodstock offered cucumber water. This spa offered wine (possibly the worst I’ve ever had), but the pedicure also included unlimited time in the “relaxation room,” which consisted of soft lights, a comfortable recliner, aforementioned wine, and prepackaged cheese and peanut-butter crackers. Kind of like the Ozarks idea of big-city sophistication.
I just read today that the Clampett family (Beverly Hillbillies-again, under 50 ask your parents), was supposed to be from the Ozarks. It is, of course, an exaggeration, but every exaggeration is built on a little truth.
Tomorrow our idyll by the lake is ending, and it’s off to the big city again, in search of baseball. This time, St. Louis.
