Sadly, we left the beautiful Lake of the Ozarks, and headed back to the big city-this time St Louis for the third of our baseball games. Our hotel is located right near Busch Stadium, home of the Cardinals, but also right near the Arch. In fact, we are planning to visit the Arch tomorrow (see tomorrow’s report), but tonight was all about baseball.

Since the Rams left, the Cardinals are St Louis’ only professional team in any major sport, so they are really supported by the city. Anheuser-Busch, which owns the Cardinals, has developed not just the stadium, but whole city blocks adjacent to the stadium, which are filled with pubs. So, if you want to enjoy the game, and the atmosphere of being in a crowd, without actually paying to get in, you can visit one of these pubs, and enjoy the game with like-minded friends (or for that matter like-minded strangers). There are even places where you can sit at the top of the pub, just like they sit on the tops of apartment buildings in Chicago, and hope you see something.

Our seats were excellent. Up high, but behind home plate, and we could see everything as it happened. And a lot happened, just not for the home team. The final score was 7-2 Giants, which for us was not the point. The point was to see a baseball game in a park we had not attended previously, and that we did.

Other than the spectacular views of the Arch, I’m sorry to say that Busch Stadium was not that impressive.. There was nothing especially unique about it, and the food prices were the highest we’ve seen this year. We got two hot dogs and two waters and it was $34!! A little lesson on bringing your own food...

Well, tomorrow we are going to visit the Arch, and then get ready to head for Denver.
