Baseball has thrown a kink into our plans to visit 4 ballparks within a reasonable time by having their All-Star Game right in the middle of our schedule. So, rather than just hang out in Minneapolis or St Louis between games in those cities, we decided to go a little out of the way to Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri. We have watched all three seasons of Ozark, and although the plots are not so plausible, the scenery is beautiful, so we thought it would be fun.
So that we would have more time here, we decided to make this the one really long day of travel, and drove 10 hours from Minneapolis, stopping only in the city of Ames, Iowa for lunch. Ames is a college town (Iowa State), and we were determined to find a local place for lunch. We found the café run by the Great Harvest Bread Company, that not only makes their own bread, they mill their own flour. Never has a BLT tasted so good.
Then we went further on into Missouri, and found our resort, which truly is a resort with a spa, so we are planning two days of sitting by the pool / cruising on the water/ luxuriating in their spa. I will let you know how that turns out.
The amazing thing about our drive today is how flat the countryside is. I tried to take photos as we sped by, but I’m not sure I was able to capture how the horizon seemed to be dropping off in front of us. And there was corn. Lots and lots of corn. 🌽
I’m really looking forward to the next couple of days
